The XIII International Tournament Ciudad de Pontevedra closes to great success

The XIII International Tournament Ciudad de Pontevedra has wrapped up with outstanding results. For a whole week, the Pontevedra University Sports Pavilion became the epicenter of international chess in Galicia, welcoming players from over twenty countries.

A high-level tournament

The level of play was remarkable, with Grandmasters and International Masters in the field. Group A produced high-quality chess throughout, with fierce battles at the top boards all the way to the final round.

Group B was just as exciting, with a strong turnout of young and amateur players who showed that grassroots chess in Galicia is in great shape.

Great atmosphere all around

Away from the board, the tournament was once again a celebration of chess and friendship. Players from all over the world made the most of their stay to explore Pontevedra, its historic center, and the outstanding gastronomy of the Rías Baixas.

The organization received plenty of praise from participants, who highlighted both the playing conditions and the warm welcome. An edition to remember.

Already thinking about the XIV

With the success of the XIII tournament still fresh, Escola Xadrez Pontevedra is already working on the next edition. The XIV International Tournament Ciudad de Pontevedra will be held from July 24 to 30, 2026, with 13,000€ in prizes and the same drive to make chess great in Galicia. Register now!
